Video Game Pre-production

Video Game Pre-Production

As a team of 3 beginner developers, we created a prototype for a game with the core gameplay features we would need. I was in charge of designing the levels, playtesting them, and adjusting them based on feedback from our playtesters.

Our game was a linear 3D platformer with a unique movement mechanic, being able to glide in the air and maintain momentum from skating.

We ended up having 3 different levels in our game each with various assets. The first level was a basic tutorial level to teach players how to control the squirrel and get some practice before the harder levels.

The first level was more basic with multiple different pathways the player could take toward the end. I learned a lot about how level design should work, how to engage the fun factor, and how when people break your game, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

The second level had a ramp that slowly had the player build up speed until they reached a larger part where there were 2 different paths they could take to get to the end.
